Arafo boasts of being a town attached to music, so much so that it can be proud of having two musical groups (bands), Nivaria and La Candelaria.
The latter will celebrate its centenary in four years. After two hard years due to the pandemic, Candelaria has returned to the stage and for tomorrow is preparing a great concert in the Plaza de San Juan Degollado, within the so-called Fest Canin which music will be mixed with gastronomy.
Carlos Albertosdirector of the La Candelaria band for eight years, comments that “in Arafo we are very lucky, because in a small town there are many people who have the tradition of studying music and participating in the bands, which translates into great wealth. of students in the academies of the two bands, so we cannot complain”.
La Candelaria works with a hundred students from the age of four, with music and movement, to training for adults, attended by 12 teachers, with a grant from the City Council of 66,000 euros.
Despite the pandemic, Albertos points out that “we were able to do things and carry out projects, such as a Zarzuela that we represent here and something else, although we received a slowdown in teaching activity.”
Carlos Albertos is very enthusiastic about the event that has been organized this Sunday in Plaza San Juan Degollado to celebrate Canary Islands Day. “Thanks to the City Council and within the recommendation of the Tinerfeña de Bandas Association that each band perform a concert in their municipality with the Day of the Canary Islands, we have organized a gastro-cultural festival focused on the Canary Islands, with a concert dedicated entirely to Canarian airs and then a demonstration of wines from three wineries in the region (Hermanos Mesa, Ferrera and El Rebusco) and restaurants recognized in the gastronomy of Canarian products, some with the Solete award from the Repsol guide”, says Albertos.
The Fest-Can will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the La Candelaria concert and, in addition to the 101 Brass Band, a band based only on wind and metal instruments, with percussion accompaniment, “who are making a spectacular tour not only in the Canary Islands but also in the Peninsula”.
