Passion, goals and transistor – La Provincia

A busy afternoon, of those of yesteryear, in which several games coincide at the same time in which up to seven teams play nothing more and nothing less than being in the First Division next season. Three, Eibar, Almería and Valladolid choose to do so directly; four, to conquer glory by way of a playoff in which only CD Tenerife is guaranteed a place. An afternoon of passion goals and transistor, although the old radio is now little more than a relic.

Some of them will carry it in the stands of the seven pitches where everything is decided on the last day, although the majority will be informed via mobile phone, either through the applications of the different channels or through other applications of results. Nobody will be left without knowing what happens in the rest of the sites. Neither did UD Las Palmas.

Because the delegate of the yellow team, Rubén Fontes, will be in charge of transmitting each goal on the bench at El Molinón the day after tomorrow (7:00 p.m.). There will be no cell phones except his own, through which he will find out about the goals in the rest of the stadiums and will pass them on to Xavi García Pimienta and, by extension, to the players on the pitch.

In any case, the video scoreboards will work and will surely report what happens on the day, as is usual in almost all venues when several games are played at the same time.

Rubén Fontes, the UD delegate, will be in charge of reporting on the yellow bench

UD, on the other hand, need only one point in El Molinón to secure their place in the promotion promotion. If that is the case, he could face the five teams that he currently has above him: Eibar, Almería, Valladolid, Tenerife and Girona. All of them, including Las Palmas, face teams that do not play anything on the last day, so the simplest scenario is that everyone wins and the classification remains as it is.

In this case, García Pimienta’s men would face Valladolid on Thursday at Zorrilla and on Sunday at Gran Canaria, however, they could also finish fourth or fifth. If so, the duels would be on Wednesday and Saturday of next week.

It should be remembered that there is a possibility that the future of the final date of the regular phase will lead to a Canarian derby in the semifinals of the playoff. Of the 81 possible combinations of outcomes, 30 lead to that dramatic island crossover. Translated into a percentage, the probability that UD and Tenerife will face each other in two games next week is 37%.

But first the last match will have to be played, in Gijón, where the yellows cannot fail. An unlikely defeat and a victory for Oviedo would leave him out. In any case, it will be an afternoon of passion, goals and transistor.

The four positions in which UD Las Palmas can end up

UD Las Palmas can finish in four different positions once their game the day after tomorrow (7:00 p.m.) ends against Sporting at El Molinón. Specifically, it can be fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh, the latter place that would prevent it from participating in the playoff. The final place will depend on the results of three other games: Tenerife-Cartagena, Burgos-Girona and Oviedo-Ibiza. It should be noted that a triple tie in Tenerife, Girona and UD the beneficiary is the yellow box, which also has its particular duel won with Tenerife and Oviedo. With Girona he has lost it.

4th

win and wait

  • The cabal for UD to finish fourth and, therefore, be able to emerge favored from a possible draw at the end of an extension is that they win their match against Sporting and that neither Girona nor Tenerife do so. Therefore, it would be worth it to add the three points and that the two that are above draw or lose against Burgos and Cartagena, respectively.

5th

three possibilities

  • For Las Palmas to finish in fifth position, three things can happen. On the one hand, they would have to win, Tenerife too and Girona draw or lose. On the other hand, UD and Girona would have to win and Tenerife lose. It is also worth drawing if Girona loses. It should be remembered that in a triple tie between the three, the yellows would be favored.

6th

three possibilities

  • The yellow team would finish matchday 42 in sixth place, where they are now after playing 41 games, in three cases: if they win and Girona and Tenerife do too; if it draws and Girona scores at El Plantío against Burgos; or if they lose at El Molinón against Sporting de Gijón and Real Oviedo do not beat Ibiza at the Carlos Tartiere.

7th

a single case

  • The only possibility for UD Las Palmas to finish in seventh position and, therefore, remain without participating in the promotion promotion, is that they lose their match against Sporting de Gijón in El Molinón and that Real Oviedo, executioner of Last day in Gran Canaria, I beat Paco Jémez’s Ibiza at the Carlos Tartiere.
