The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, inaugurated this Wednesday afternoon the ‘I Monographic Meeting of Autonomous Communities Cooperation-Migrations’ at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and which will take place until Friday in the two capital islands.
These conferences try to open a debate and reach a consensus document on cooperation for development and the migratory phenomenon.
The forum is promoted by the Deputy Ministry of Foreign Action of the Autonomous Government, directed by Juan Rafael Zamora, and the General Directorate of Foreign Relations, of Juan Francisco Trujillo.
The first day took place at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government in Tenerife, while this Thursday’s is held at the Logistics Center of the World Food Program, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Friday’s at Casa Africa.
Fifty people are expected to attend the conference, including technicians, general managers, heads of development agencies and workers from other fields, with 13 of the 17 Spanish autonomous communities participating.
Navarra and the Balearic Islands have excused themselves for not being able to attend the meeting, while Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha maintain their decision not to intervene in this type of forum, the Government highlights in a note.
The coordinators of the national and Canary NGOs do participate, as well as the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
Through various presentations, round tables and regional experiences, the meeting tries to feed the debate and consensus on decentralized cooperation from the autonomous communities regarding development aid and migratory phenomena.
In this forum, regional projects will be shared to generate synergies, joint lines of work and specific collaborations.
At the same time, the coherence in the migration policies in the receiving countries, the mobility agreements for workers, the legal mechanisms for the entry of foreigners by existence, for example, of labor demand or remittances and financing flows will be analyzed. in order to facilitate these transactions.
Likewise, the social and economic capital of migrations and the ability to activate socioeconomic transformation projects in their countries of origin will be addressed.
