The Town Hall of La Victoria de Acentejo tenders for 725,000 euros the work that will allow the municipality to have its first emblematic hotel in the historic house of Dean Calzadilla. Tomorrow is the deadline for submitting offers to the Public Sector Contracting Platform and the Mayor of Victori, Juan Antonio Garcia Abreu (PSOE), trusts that once awarded, the works can be completed within a period of about six months. The objective is that this new tourist accommodation of municipal promotion be finished in the year 2023.
Abreu highlights the work of the Town Hall of La Victoria“together with the Government of the Canary Islands, which presides over Angel Victor Torres (PSOE), to obtain the necessary financing to reactivate a project that was born with the purchase of the house in 2010 and that will allow us to have the first hotel beds in our municipality ».
The current tender represents a key step for a project that had been entrenched for years, “despite the importance it has for The victory, since it involves the rehabilitation of this important element of our historical heritage and enables the town to have its first hotel. An initiative in which Juan Antonio Garcia Abreu also considers key “the work and involvement of the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castillaand the General Director of Tourist Infrastructures, Fernando Minarro».
Dean Calzadilla’s housewhich is located next to the hermitage in the San Juan neighborhood, is an 18th-century building that was the family residence of Nicholas of Calzadilla, born in La Victoria de Acentejo and dean of the Santa Iglesia Catedral de Canarias. It is a building with a surface area of 500 square metres, divided into two floors with a central corridor that houses rooms on both sides. Likewise, the property has ethnographic elements of interest and outdoor spaces such as patios, gardens, roof terraces, a cistern and a threshing floor, among others, which together cover an area of more than 1,100 square meters.
This 18th century building will be able to house 11 accommodation units and several areas for common use
The planned intervention in the building, which will have 11 accommodation units, is committed to respecting the volume of the building without introducing extensions; eliminate recent extensions and those works that distort the original work, and restore all wooden elements, both roofs, intermediate ceilings and carpentry, as long as their condition allows it. The elements that cannot be restored will have to be replaced by others of the same material and design. For the restoration, in general, the same materials that made up the original elements would be used.
The victorious consistory underlines that the House of Dean Calzadilla fits into the typology of emblematic hotel, provided for in article 2 of Decree 142/2010, of October 4, which approves the Regulation of the Tourist Activity of Accommodation. This standard defines as “the hotel establishment that is located on non-tourist consolidated urban land and whose building constitutes a real estate that is part of the historical heritage of the Autonomous Community.”
