Health confirms another case of monkeypox in the Canary Islands

Studies carried out at the National Microbiology Center in Madrid have confirmed the first case of monkeypox in Tenerife and the second of Canary Islands.

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands detected last Friday the second possible case of infection treated at the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital, in Tenerife, without requiring hospital admission.

This case corresponds to a young man, who met, according to the epidemiological survey carried out, the notification criteria and case profile that the Ministry of Health has been registered as an alert for infection by monkeypox, also known as monkeypox. His evolution is favorableso the patient will continue their process at home with the corresponding follow-up.

In the Canary Islands there are two confirmed cases and four under study

This is the second confirmed case in the Canary Islands. The first was registered on Thursday in Gran Canaria and was confirmed yesterday, Monday. also in the islands there are three probable cases, all in Gran Canaria, which were notified yesterday to three young men whose evolution is also favorable, following their process at home, except for one of them who has been admitted for another pathology. A suspicious case, corresponding to a British tourist, registered in Fuerteventura.

On the other hand, Health has confirmed three new suspected cases. These are three young men from Gran Canaria who are progressing favorably and whose samples will be sent today for study at the National Center for Microbiology. One of the cases has been classified as probable because it meets the clinical and epidemiological criteria, while the other two are suspected cases because they only present clinical criteria.
