SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has assured that the Canarian Executive is going to exhaust “all avenues” to recover “every last euro” of the four million destined for the acquisition of one million masks during the state of alarm due to the covid-19 pandemic.

This has been stated in statements to the media, as a result of the Association for the Defense of Public Health in the Canary Islands demanding the immediate dismissal of political leaders for what is known as the case of masks in the Canary Islands.

Ángel Víctor Torres explained that we are a resolution of the contract that was made “following the administrative canons” and added that there has also been a claim by the Government of the four million paid to the winning company that brought the masks to the Islands.

In this sense, Torres clarified that during the state of alarm, the Government of the Canary Islands made fifteen contracts “for tens of millions of euros” due to the need to bring medical supplies, and remarked that only one “was unsuccessful.”

“Therefore, all the procedures have been carried out in accordance with current legislation,” said the president, adding that all the explanations on this case have already been given by the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, and the director of the SCS, Conrad Dominguez.

Regarding the request from the Association for the Defense of Public Health in the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres considers that it is necessary to be “consistent and rigorous” with the statements and wanted to make it clear that the Government has not hidden “any information” on this matter and has given an account of what has been necessary “in a public way”.
