The Sustainable City and Planning area of the Puerto de la Cruz City Council organizeswithin the framework of the month of May of Proactivas 2022, the I Fair of Sustainability and Urban Agenda of the tourist city. The event will take place next Saturday, May 28, between 9:00 and 14:00 in the Plaza del Charco, “with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of environmental care from the local and to publicize this strategy of sustainable urban development for the city».

The councilor for the area, David Hernández (Portuense Citizens’ Assembly), underlines that “with this first fair we want to continue public work with citizens, making known this important tool derived from the European and Spanish Urban Agenda, which will mean the implementation in the municipality of an urban development strategy until the year 2030, marked by the criteria of sustainability and participation».

The events will officially begin at ten in the morning with the Municipal Sustainability School Climate Emergency and Municipal Urban Agenda, which will include the participation of Councilor David Hernández and the responsible for the Urban Agenda of the municipalities of Puerto de la Cruz (Oswaldo Ledesma), Candelaria (Rodrigo Vargas) and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Santiago Hernández). Next, at 11:00 a.m., the PFAE GJ Puerto Dinamiza 2021 will lead explanatory tours of the fair itself open to the public. At around 12:00 noon the public debate on the climate crisis will take place within the framework of the project HablaCanarias, of the Department of Citizen Participation. The debate, moderated by the journalist Raquel Ladevèze, will include the marine biologist Pablo Dive, the meteorologist José Miguel Viñas, the island councilor Javier Rodríguez and the researcher Claudia Asensi.

Throughout the morning, the Fair will have information booths on sustainability projects in which different environmental associations will have the opportunity to publicize their activity, including Promemar, Mothers for Climate, Ecoareas, Buenamar, Red Cross, Sinpromi and Green Offices of the Canary Islands. Throughout the day, girls and boys will be able to enjoy sustainable revitalization activities coordinated by the PFAE GJ Puerto Dinamiza 2021, such as storytelling, ecogymkhanas or workshops.

As a prelude to the fair and to bring the Urban Agenda strategy closer to citizens, Proactivas has organized two workshops given by Oswaldo Ledesma aimed at different audiences. The first was last Friday, May 20, and the second will be held this Thursday, May 26, at the Casa de Juventud.
