The Municipal Center for the Elderly of La Orotavawhich has more than 2,200 registered members, begins tomorrow its XXXVI Cultural Weekwhich until Friday the 27th will include talks, exhibitions, performances, theater meetings, a tribute to outstanding members and the election gala of the Romera Mayor de los Mayoresscheduled for this Monday, May 23 at 5:15 p.m. in the Teobaldo Power Auditorium.
On Tuesday 24, already at its usual venue, there will be a culinary market, in collaboration with the Farmer’s Market of La Orotava, and a theater meeting with volunteers from Amavite and the theater group of this center for the elderly. On Wednesday, from 10:00, there will be an intergenerational activity with love and, from 5:00 p.m., the Festival of Parrandas and the workshop of Your best recipe with bananas.
On Thursday the 26th, the healthy morningfrom 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a self-care workshop given by staff from the center of the Las Dehesas Health Service of the Canary Islands, exhibitions of physical activity and tai chi, and a healthy breakfast. Starting at 5:00 p.m., outstanding members will be honored and, half an hour later, the Habaneras Festival will begin, with the participation of the reading club and the folkloric dance group of the La Orotava Senior Center, and the roundabouts Volcanoes of Teide, Guajara and Camino de Chasna. This XXXVI Cultural Week will say goodbye on Friday 27, starting at 10:30 a.m., with a Poetry Recital by the Reading Club of the Senior Center.
The mayor of Social Welfare, Belén González (CC), highlights the importance of this center for the social, cultural, educational and sports activity of the elderly, as well as its role in “promoting and fostering the integration, participation and coexistence of people elders in society.
This service, which depends on the Social Welfare area, is aimed at all Orotavenses over 60 years of age, widows or pensioners over 55 years of age or people with severe disabilities, who can become members without any age requirement. This center offers daily classes and workshops on mindfulness, cognitive stimulation, literacy, computers, sewing, embroidery, therapeutic gymnastics and tai-chi. In addition, there is a support group for grief management and groups for reading and writing, theater and dance.
