The CC-PNC group in the Cabildo has obtained the support to convene an extraordinary meeting of the Insular Council for Animal Protection and Welfare after obtaining the signatures required in its internal regulations. The nationalist councilor Antolín Bueno points out: «We have been forced to this measure due to the breaches of the PSOE and Pedro Martín».
The Animal Welfare Council has not met since February 2020 and the regulations say that it must be convened at least once a year. In addition, “in their day they said they would hold three meetings a year, but they have not fulfilled it,” says Bueno.
The counselor explains that “due to the lack of interest and apathy of the government group, we have been forced to collect the signatures of some members of the Council.” He appeals to article 11 of the internal regulations.
Bueno appreciates the support of the also directors Valentín González (PP) and María José Belda (Si Podemos Canarias). In addition to the adhesion of Sandra Barrera, president of the Animalia group; of Yahaira Tovar, president of the Association for the Defense and Protection of Animals of the Canary Islands (Adepac) and of Adriana Naranjo, of the Canarian Federation of Animal Protection Associations (Fecacap).
Antolín Bueno has requested to deal with the problem with the control and collection of cats that the advancement of the regulations on access of domestic animals to public transport on the Island be addressed, as approved in a motion at his proposal in January of this year.
