The Provincial Federation of Entities of the Construction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Fepeco) supports “unconditionally” the construction of the new section of the North Highway (TF-5). Its president, Óscar Izquierdo, lamented in a statement that, “as always happens with any infrastructure work that has to be carried out in Tenerife, the first thing that comes to light is the debate regarding its suitability, convenience or priority.” And he added: “In this way, you inevitably enter a vicious circle, where both those who support it and those who oppose it appear everywhere, with arguments of all kinds, some colorful, most of the time with partisan overtones, professional egos and a lot of ideology involved.
In Izquierdo’s opinion, this debate only serves “to delay its implementation, block any procedure, both administrative and enforcement, in addition to muddying everything possible to prevent the start of the work. This has happened historically in Tenerife and we continue along the same lines.”
The head of the construction management association is “blunt” in ratifying that they support “absolutely and without any restriction the construction of the La Laguna variant, because it is an adequate solution, quick in its execution, possible to do and profitable to the maximum ». And he continued: «It will serve to relieve the Northern motorway, the TF-5, and at the same time unify, once and for all, the municipality territorially, which is currently divided by the existing, obsolete, clogged and separating road network». And he stated: “The impact on the territory is going to be minimal, because most of the route is going to be in a tunnel, respecting the agricultural land and the population centers.”
