Two years have passed since the declaration of the pandemic put us all at home, distancing us from family, friends, routines, even work. Two years in which carnival groupslike any family, saw their rehearsals, their performances, their hangouts interrupted to start the season after the summer.
Until last April, when all the restrictions were lifted, they were unable to rehearse with all their components, to meet again. Yesterday one of those customs that are part of the carnival routine and that indicate that the party is about to begin, the official visits of politicians, was resumed. Mayor, Jose Manuel Bermudezaccompanied by the Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, but also by Dámaso Arteaga, Juan José Martínez, Javier Rivero, Rosario González and Evelyn Alonso, began the institutional visits to the Carnival groups.
As the mayor pointed out, “the idea is to thank the effort they make for so long and for so many years in those rehearsals to participate in the contests and give everything on the street to have the best Carnival in the world. The least we can do is come see how they do it and thank you on behalf of the city.”
As for what the groups are telling him, Bermúdez explained that “people are very eager, the same as all groups and all citizens. People want Carnival, the one with the contests, the one with the galas, the one on the street, to recover the sensations that we lost with the pandemic and I think it will be a great Carnival.” Sabor Isleño, Peña del Lunes, Afilarmónica Nifú Nifá, Masa Coral Tenerife, Triqui Traques and Ni Pico Ni Corto were the first to receive the mayor’s visit.
