Discrepancies in La Orotava along a path between beaches

The Ecological Coordinator El Rincón showed at the last meeting of the consortium in charge of managing this protected agricultural area, in La Orotavatheir disagreement with the dimensions of the path proposed to join the accesses of the beaches of the Bollullo Y The Ducks, currently closed for security improvement works. The environmentalists have asked the authorities and technicians involved in the design of the project to respect the characteristics and dimensions of the trails in this coastal area and to refrain from a path six meters widewhich in his opinion “looks like a boardwalk”.

This group made clear its position regarding the El Bollullo-Los Patos coastal path at the recent meetings of the Executive Commission and the General Council of the El Rincón Consortium, held last week. Their proposal is to respect the current physiognomy as much as possible and, in particular, the existing vegetation. And they understand that what was initially proposed “looks more like a promenade typical of urban areas, than a path that crosses a Protected Agricultural Landscape”. They successfully requested to participate and comment on the drafting of this project and to make a visit to the place with the drafting team.

In these meetings the new budget of the El Rincon Consortium for 2022, which amounts to 1.2 million euros and includes items for the drafting of the project for this new path between the access to the Bollullo beach and the Pino ravine, from where the new Los Patos staircase starts (14,500 euros ); the drafting of the resurfacing and improvement project for the El Ancón road (14,700 euros); an item of 447,267 euros for the stairs and the access path to the beach of the ducks; 126,000 euros for expropriations for the aforementioned trail; 18,000 euros to pay the rent for the Los Patos construction site, and an item of 550,339 euros for “investment in infrastructure and goods for general use.”

The Coordinator points out that in these meetings they were informed that the destination of this item of 550,000 euros “is still to be agreed upon in the Consortium, but it could be for the road from San Diego to Bollullo”. This group raised the need for at least part of these funds to be allocated to agriculture, “such as the irrigation network, some action included in the Agricultural Development Operational Planor a land bank, since we are in a Protected Agricultural Landscapeand nothing has been done to promote the exploitation of plots that are currently vacant”.

The representatives of the environmental group in the Consortium abstained in the vote on the 2022 budget due to the fact that “No funds are expressly earmarked for agriculture in El Rincón”.

Regarding the work on the Los Patos staircase, The Coordinator El Rincón points out that the forecast is that it could be completed “by the end of September”, so that in the best case it would be available to bathers at the end of the summer season. Once again, the project had to be partially modified to adapt it to the orography and the characteristics of the terrain. The layout of its final part will be straighter than the initial one and the use of concrete has been chosen, “partially lined with wood and stone tiles”.

Sources from the Government Group of the Villero City Council (CC) point out that the works to improve safety on the slopes of Bollullo beach “are going at a good pace, so if everything continues without problems, the beach will open as planned during the next june”.
