Canarian-PNC Coalition (CC-PNC) in the Municipality of Santiago del Teide reported this week thatfor the third consecutive year, the beaches of the municipality have been left without Blue Flags. It is a distinction granted by the Federation of Environmental Education (FEE) and is coordinated by the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac) in Spain. In this 2022, the Playa de La Arena has once again been left without this recognition. The same happens with the Los Gigantes Marina.
The new spokeswoman for CC in the City Council of Santiago del Teide, Ariana Trujillo, assured that adding a third consecutive year without flags is a direct consequence of “the inaction of the most responsible, which is none other than the mayor, Emilio Navarro, and his lack of management in the fundamental matters that affect the municipality». “We cannot tolerate this situation in a municipality where one of its tourist attractions are the beaches on which many surrounding businesses depend economically,” he added.
The nationalist recalled that Playa de la Arena lost the blue flag in 2020 after several years suffering from constant spills. La Arena was the first beach to obtain the blue flag in the Canary Islands and maintained it for 32 consecutive years. This distinction was also obtained by Los Guíos beach and Los Gigantes Marina.
