La Orotava recovers the next month of June all the acts of its traditional festivals of the Corpus Christi and San Isidro Labrador which, according to the estimates of the local government (CC), will bring together some 200,000 people in the town in its most anticipated acts: the concert of The Sabandeñosthe presentation of the new wine harvest, the day of the carpets, the dance of magicians, the ascent of the patron saints and the massive pilgrimage of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza. the village mayor, Francisco Linares (CC)announced that the Consistory will invest about 600,000 euros in the organization of more than a hundred events for 47 days, which it hopes will generate an economic return of “about 5 million euros.”
Linares considers that recovering the fiestas, after two years of stoppage forced by the pandemic, “it will be an oxygen balloon for the deep crisis that many businesses have suffered”, in addition to becoming “the prelude to the recovery of all the parties in our neighborhoods during next summer”. He insisted that the festivities “they are not an expense, but an investment”in addition to responding “to the need that the municipality has to celebrate its traditions and enjoy so many meetings.”
The Mayor of Villero recalled that these parties have had to be organized in just a month and a half, “because initially it was not planned that we would celebrate them. It has been a huge job to recover all the acts of our festive tradition». The patron saint festivities will officially begin tomorrow, with the festivity of San Isidro Labrador. They will last 47 days in which more than a hundred acts will take place until June 27, when they will say goodbye with a new edition of the long-awaited Battle of Polkas, the day after the return of the pilgrimage in honor of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza.
