SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has signed an agreement with the City Council of La Matanza de Acentejo for an amount of 8.9 million euros for the improvement and expansion of the facilities of its social and health center, as well as for the construction of a comprehensive rehabilitation center regional in nature.

This agreement, carried out through the Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS), pursues the objective of changing the management of social-health places towards a model in which personalized and individualized care for the elderly prevails.

Present at the signing of this document were the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín; the mayor of La Matanza de Acentejo, Ignacio Rodríguez, and the director of the IASS Dependency Care Unit, Beatriz Durán.

Pedro Martín explained that the Cabildo has been working for some time to change the way in which the elderly are cared for and establish a new coexistence model, in which these people are the center, so that the services are adapted to their realities and needs. , and not the other way around.

“This line of work, which we formalized today in La Matanza, will also be transferred to other projects that we have in Arico, in Santa Úrsula, in La Orotava and in other municipalities of Tenerife, now that we are finally solving the administrative problems. This was one of the pending issues to resolve when we arrived at the Cabildo and on which we have been working to be able to solve,” added the island president.

Ignacio Rodríguez highlighted the public nature of these care places for the elderly: “The most important thing is that we have signed an agreement that will cover many elderly people who, without these places, would not have the possibility of accessing quality care, such as and as they deserve”. In addition, he assured that the creation of the comprehensive rehabilitation center will open the possibility of improving the quality of life of this group.

According to the deadlines set by both administrations, the works must be awarded before the end of 2022, although the La Matanza City Council has already started the procedures to reduce this deadline as much as possible.

According to the agreement, the Cabildo de Tenerife will contribute 8.9 million euros to carry out the works, divided into four annual installments until 2025. For its part, the Consistory will contribute the site on which the extension will be carried out and 620,000 euros that they will be allocated to the urbanization of the access road to the center and other complementary actions.

In addition, in the amount delivered by the Island Council, the additional amount of 372,019 euros will be included, for works carried out in the center that corresponded to the previous collaboration agreement.

The planned actions include the expansion of the center’s infrastructure by 4,445 square metres, which is more than twice its current size. This will allow adding 55 more places in the residential mode and 35 in day care. All of them adapted to the new socio-health care model promoted by the Island Corporation, which includes a more specialized service.

The project also contemplates the construction of a therapeutic pool of about 893 square meters and other complementary investments, including an adapted parking lot and the improvement of the urbanization of the area.
