Festivities and the murgas held a tense meeting yesterday on account of the interpretation of the contest rules, which many consider are not being fulfilled, for which they demanded the area councilor, Alfonso Cabello, that the Oafar be strict in its application , something that, if done, the mayor pointed out, “many of the things that have been done in recent years could not be done.” Finally, the Santa Cruz Carnival 2023 will have new foundations.

And it is that up to nine murgas privately expressed their dissatisfaction to the mayor for what they consider a relaxation of the bases in the performances of Zeta Zetas, the murga winner of the last two contests. In the end, an agreement was reached that, this year, they will remain as they are and will be applied as they have been in recent years, so that, in 2023, through a participatory process, proceed to modify them. The murgas can now send their props needs for the contest to Fiestas and a technical commission will inform them if it is possible.

Order of participants of the next contests

The draw was perhaps the least of it. Yesterday, in the auditorium there was an afternoon of reunions, hugs, handshakes, kisses. And it is that, for the first time after the pandemic, the Carnival groups met without restrictions to know the order of participation in their respective contests.

The Autonomous Organization of Festivities and Recreational Activities (Oafar)with the area councilor in charge, Alfonso Cabello, proceeded to carry out a draw in which it was established that the rondalla Las Valkirias will be the first to break the fire of the contests on June 4, that the murga Tras con Tras will open the adult murgas contest on the 13th and that Bahía Bahitiare will close the contests on the 28th with Rhythm and Harmony.

The first to know the order of participation were the groups of older people in the Gala June 12, at 5:00 p.m., at the Gala de los Mayores. The first will be Con Nuestra Gente Chincanayros, followed by Antón Guanche, Rondalla de las Nieves, Mayores de 2000, Monte Nevado, Padre Anchieta Pensioner’s Home, Teide Volcanoes and Tegueste Senior Citizens Association.

For its part, in the Choreographic Festival, on June 5, 16 associations will participate, with the Odali group being the first to jump onto the stage of the Fairgrounds, followed by Stardance, Crea Hip Hop, Ibaute, Crew of Dreams, Funkyguachi, Patronato Cultural Arona Town Hall, Los Bohemios, Loli Pérez, Ballet Dance, Yu Funk Dance School, Moana, Luther King San Miguel, Azahar, Tenerife Dance Project and Crazy Dancer.

The next to know their starting order were the children’s murgas, whose contest is held on June 20, 21 and 22. Thus, in the first phase they will act in this order: Distracted, Long Tongues, Carricitos, Raviscuditos, Mamelones and El Cabito. In the second phase, the participants are: Rebels, Pita Pitos, Beavers, Revoltosos and Chinchositos. The third and last phase will feature Twisted, Guachipanduzy, Redoblones, Sofocados and Triqui Traquitos.

The nine musical groups will hold their contest on June 11, at nine o’clock at night, at the Fairgrounds. The order in which they will go on stage is as follows: Salsabor, Teiderife, Chaxiraxi, Cantares Luz de Luna, Nobleza Canaria, Los Yuppies, Caña Dulce, Siboney, and Sabor Isleño.

For their part, the comparsas will have a double encounter with the public. The first, on June 18 in its contest at the Recinto Ferial, and the second, on 26, with Rhythm and Harmony. The order in which they will participate in both contests is as follows: Tropicana, Valleiros, Cariocas, Río Orinoco, Rumberos, Abenaura, Danzarines Canarios, Tabajaras and Bahía Bahitiare.
As for the rondallas, who will have their contest on June 4, at five in the afternoon at the Fairgrounds, they will participate in this order: Las Valkirias, Peña del Lunes 1965, Unión Artística El Cabo, Masa Coral Tinerfeña and Agrupación Lírica the Rondalla Mamel’s Association.

The draw closed with the adult murgas, who will have the three phases of the contest on June 13, 14 and 15, and the final on June 17, for which the order of participation will be drawn again. Thus, in the first phase, the order of action will be as follows: Tras con Tras, Zeta Zetas, Mamelucos, Trapaseros, Chinchosos and La Sonora. The second will be headed by Burlonas, followed by Diablos Locos, Triqui Traques, Desbocados, MasQLocas and Ni Pico Ni Corto. The third and final phase will feature Diabólica, Rolled Up, Trabachones, Bambones and Unleashed.
