Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host on June 18 and 19 the first edition of the euro rainbow festival with Eurovision participants such as Conchita Wurst and Loreen, and artists from the LGTBIQ collective. One of the most striking activities will be the attempt to bring together 10,000 people dressed as Abba in Tenerife.
Eurorainbow will be held on the stage reserved for the most important events in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, such as Carnival, and will have free access for the community of eurofans, but also for everyone interested in enjoying the latest European music. , the organization reported in a statement.
The Austrian singer Conchita Wurst, the Ukrainian Jamala and the Swedish of Berber descent Loreen have been winners of Eurovision in recent years and will come to Tenerife to offer exclusive concerts in which there will be no shortage of those songs that won and became a success throughout Europe.
Wurst, with “Rise like a Phoenix” gave victory to Austria in 2014 and his non-binary appearance conquered the hearts of all Europeans, becoming a true phenomenon and a banner of freedom, says the Eurorainbow organization.
Jamala won victory for Ukraine in 2016 and made “1944” a hit across the continent, a song that also had a political claim for European values and against the invasion of Crimea.
Now Jamala has had to flee her country with her children and has taken refuge in Turkey.
Swedish singer Loreen was a true revolution in the 2012 contest with “Euphoria” and also showed her solidarity when, in the weeks of rehearsals in Azerbaijan, she was the only contestant to visit local refugees in Baku.
With an eye also on the most recent news, the singer Cornelia Jakobs will attend Eurorainbow a few weeks after representing Sweden in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest to be held this Saturday in Italy.
The Chilean Javiera Mena will also participate, who since she began her career more than a decade ago has always remained faithful to her style and is one of the most recognizable voices of electronic pop in Spanish, and will offer a concert in Tenerife after her participation in the Benidorm Festival.
In the same way, the Canarian singer Cristina Ramos, who participated in the San Remo Festival this year, will go to Eurorainbow to reconnect with her audience and after having become one of the most relevant artists on the international scene.
But in addition, the festival will celebrate its first EuroChallenge, a challenge that each year will invite attendees to actively participate in the festival.
Abba’s challenge in Tenerife
In this first year, the EuroChallenge will consist of breaking the world record for people dressed as the four members of the legendary Swedish band ABBAof which a tribute will be celebrated with a concert by a tribute band.
For this Abba EuroChallenge in Tenerife, a Guinness World Records representative will be invited to verify the record on the day of the event, and the Eurorainbow organization expects to attract thousands of people, and will offer a cash prize for the most original dresses of the summons.
The festival is sponsored by the Cabildo de Tenerife, through Turismo de Tenerife, the Autonomous Organism for Culture of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, and Turismo de Gobierno de Canarias.
The CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, highlights that the celebration of this festival, which “also has an important social background, will be a clear example of the social cohesion, diversity and coexistence that exists on the island.
The Councilor for Culture of the Capital City Council, Gladys de León, assures that it is an honor that Santa Cruz de Tenerife hosts the first edition of this demonstration of tolerance, freedom and creativity, values ”in which we believe and for which we are firmly committed, as and as we demonstrate in each of the actions that we promote and support”.
