Santa Cruz’s commitment to recover activity on the street through more than 200 activities until the end of the year may encounter a serious security problem in the face of the warning made by the unions of the Santa Cruz Local Policewho describe as “unsustainable” the current lack of troops to deal with such a volume of acts.

This has been made known to the Human Resources area and the Director of Security, up to two times, the last one yesterday, requesting that the police forces be reinforced to face the announced marathon of activities, a request that has not received a response, according to the four union formations (Asipal, CC.OO., CSIF and UGT) with representation in the local body.

The union organizations assure that since April 9, the date of the first letter, various security problems have already been generated in the municipality on weekends that come to prove them right.

As can be read in the latest document to which DIARIO DE AVISOS has had access, the unions describe the current situation as “unsustainable” for longer, “since there are not enough police personnel to attend to citizen demands, further increased by the numerous events held in the city.

Likewise, they warn the Consistory that, if the same position is maintained, “responding with silence to the union requests made in the face of the great increase in the ratio (number of inhabitants / number of police officers), we can assert that Santa Cruz will be an insecure city, particularly weekends”.

Santa Cruz Local Police

In the letter they expressly mention the program of activities presented by the City Council, Santa Cruz pure heart. “We note that these activities, in which a huge number of people are expected, make it necessary to plan security devices, in which an increase in professional security personnel is established.”

The unions suggest that this increase “must originate through the formula carried out until now, that is, of the corresponding extraordinary services of a voluntary nature, in order to provisionally improve the ratio”. The union organizations assure that, if these extraordinary services are not planned, “the ordinary service will be inevitably exceeded, having to stick to actions in which their own safety is not compromised, seeing how, in addition, their rights regarding vacations are limited, licenses, permits, etc., with the presumed loss of optimal physical conditions as there is a high average age among the members of the Local Police of Santa Cruz”.

To this must be added, as you have learned DIARY OF NOTICESthat the situation that the private company that is in charge of the security of the municipal dependencies is going through has forced the Local Police of Santa Cruz to also take charge of the security of the municipal dependencies on weekends.
