SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 9. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de La Palma will open the LP-301 San Isidro-Refugio El Pilar highway from Wednesday, which had been closed since the date the volcanic eruption began, on September 19, 2021.
However, the Refugio de El Pilar Recreational Area will continue to be closed while the sanitation work continues on the pine forest damaged by volcanic ash, which presents a risk of falling branches and which is carried out by the Department of the Environment of the Cabildo de La Palma.
The insular head of Security and Emergencies, Nieves Rosa Arroyo, pointed out that the report for the opening of the road has been transferred today to the Peinpal Advisory Committee.
He also stressed that a series of decisions related to the opening of this road have been adopted, aimed at reinforcing the safety of people in the area.
In this sense, he explained that the surveillance post located in La Hilera de la Cumbre will be transferred to the Llano del Jable viewpoint, at the beginning of the Fran Santana Forest Trail, as well as the one located at the intersection of the LP3 with the LP301 to the climb to the Cabeza de Vaca track (Tacande LP-212 road). Likewise, the exclusion zone and the dangers associated with gases in said space will be marked.
In any case, Arroyo indicated that the LP-301 highway may be closed at a time when gas levels in the area may increase.
Finally, the councilor called for citizen responsibility, aware that the opening of the road may increase attempts to access the prohibited area. Arroyo has indicated that surveillance will be increased and surveillance cameras will be installed at strategic points.
