SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 9. (EUROPE PRESS) –
More than 120 families from Guía de Isora, Granadilla de Abona, La Laguna, La Victoria, Santiago del Teide and Vilaflor participate in the initiative of the Cabildo de Tenerife People+Sustainable, from which it tries to accompany these family nuclei in a process of training and raising awareness of a more sustainable life model for the management of their daily lives.
People + Sustainable is a program designed and coordinated by the Area of Sustainable Development and Fight against Climate Change of the Cabildo, through the Environmental Education Unit and developed by Sinpromi, in collaboration with the municipalities.
“On the island of Tenerife, 600,000 tons of waste are generated every year, or what is the same, 1,600 tons a day,” said the Minister for Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez, who added that more than 90 % of that volume collected in the rest container is buried”.
For this reason, he considered that these awareness-raising and training actions “complement other very important projects that this government group is launching for the implementation of recycling companies.”
Rodríguez Medina pointed out that these types of actions, such as those of the People+Sustainable program, form part of the “first step, and therefore the most important, of the waste hierarchy that is established by law, and that it is none other than the of prevention”.
These actions are aimed at the generation of a lower volume of waste that has repercussions in minimizing the voluminous figures that I was talking about before. “That is why we must work to achieve” healthier consumption habits and reduce the footprint that has repercussions on the territory, “said the minister.
“We want projects like this to be the seed to germinate new ideas and new consumption habits and with it little by little we will be able to transform our island,” he concluded.
In this first edition of 2022, 20 families will participate from the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, Guía de Isora, La Victoria de Acentejo, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santiago del Teide and Vilaflor de Chasna.
The program is made up of thematic meetings on climate change, energy, mobility, purchases, waste and water. Along with these meetings, lasting two hours and thirty minutes, parallel activities are offered for the boys and girls of the registered families, as well as support to improve the daily management of the home, visits to the Environmental Complex of Tenerife and other places of interest , personalized attention on tough matters of waste management, energy, etc. and the delivery of a simple saving kit or equipment.
During the month of May the first presentation sessions of the project will start, in which the families that will take part in it will participate, in this way on the 17th the first of them will take place in La Victoria de Acentejo, on the 19th in Santiago del Teide , on Monday the 23rd in La Laguna, on Tuesday the 24th in Guía de Isora and on the 26th in Vilaflor de Chasna.
