The Desokupa company tried to evict the 46 families residing in a building on Isla de La Graciosa street in San Isidroin Passion fruit. A team intervened during the last three days and accessed the property through one of the portals to the roof, where they replaced the door with another anti-squat, “They broke several solar panels and disconnected the water tanks,” according to those affected, leaving the residents without drinking water supply and, partially, without electricity.
David Esteve, head of the company and protagonist of controversies on the Peninsula, assures that “there was a risk of collapse” due to the presence of 180 tons of water stored on the roof. Through its social account, it reports that the documentation for the operation was presented “online” to the City Council, that the intervention was carried out in the presence of the Civil Guard and the Local Police, that “the property” chose to offer a social rental of 450 euros per month per home and that “eleven families had signed exit agreements”, to whom they offered 1,500 euros per apartment for a provisional rent elsewhere.
Esteve himself claims to have reported alleged attacks on the team’s cameraman and threats to the guards who were left in the building and who had to leave their jobs. From Madrid, yesterday he warned that he will return with a team of 40 people: «Now we are going to vacate you yes or yes. I can guarantee you that.”he states in a video.
The City Council of Granadilla de Abona claims to have proof of the intervention only through a communication from the company, while the court is unaware of this situation, assure the neighbors and groups that support them.
Those affected are more than 150, among which minors and elderly predominate and who make up families that receive the minimum vital income, are in ERTE, unemployed and/or in a situation of vulnerability. They have resided in this building since the beginning of the 2007 crisis as squatters, “with verbal permission from those who governed Granadilla at the time, but they have done everything to adapt and equip the property.” They maintain that they want to regularize the situation and pay a social rent, «but until yesterday the building had no recognized owner, as far as we know. This month there will be a trial for usurpation and the complainant is a Romanian, who appeared as the alleged owner ».
