SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The coordinator of the PP of Tenerife, Lope Afonso, has asked this Friday the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, to open himself to consensus to carry out the credit modification of 126 million that was rejected in the last plenary session of the corporation.
Afonso explained in a note that his political group voted against this initiative due to the government’s intention “to impose a series of initiatives that had not been agreed upon”, to which he adds that “if the government headed by Pedro Martín does not succeed, with its partners, as has already happened with the Tren del Sur, the majority necessary to carry out projects that are important for Tenerife, what it has to do is work from the principles of participation, transparency, seriousness and rigour” .
Afonso also assured that “in this line, he will find the support of the Popular Party”, since the priority is the “general interest of the people of Tenerife”.
Along these lines, he clarified that months ago his group already conveyed to the president its “willingness to support him” on issues that are a priority for Tenerife, and for which he does not have the necessary majority, “since his government is based on a whose ideological position is contrary to the economic and social model of the island”.
For the coordinator of the PP of Tenerife, “it is difficult for citizens to understand the tension that has been installed in the ways of doing politics in an administration as important as the Cabildo, which has been until now an element of territorial, social and political cohesion of our island.
Given this circumstance, Afonso invites the island government to “reflect on the importance of having the necessary capacity to reach agreements when a government is in a weak situation, as is the case, instead of dedicating itself to opposing to the opposition to hide the failure of not being able to guarantee the approval of large projects such as the Motor Circuit within the tripartite”.
