The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, inaugurated this Friday the third edition of ‘Tenerife Volcanic Fashion’, which can be visited until next Sunday at the Fairgrounds and in which 70 companies linked to the fashion sector participate, as well like 40 Canarian designers who will take advantage of the meeting to present their next collections.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action, Carmen Luz Baso; the director of ‘Tenerife Moda’, José Sánchez Giuseppe; the General Director of Commerce and Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands, David Mille and the mayors of Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez and Marco González, respectively.
Pedro Martín explained that this edition of the fair is “special because it falls within the new normality”, but also because they wanted to add to the fashion proposal, “which is already very rich, varied and of great quality, other elements linked to the textile industry”.
The president also emphasized another of the novelties presented by the new edition, such as the permanent exhibition of ‘Merkarte’ with which he wants to “give opportunities to young talents and the new generations that come after”.
For her part, Carmen Luz Baso added that one of the objectives of the new format of ‘Tenerife Volcanic Fashion’, in which multi-brand and personal image businesses are participating for the first time, “is to promote a sector, such as fashion, with great pulling power in other areas such as training, crafts, art or audiovisual production”.
In addition, he highlighted the participation of the Fernández Estévez School of Art and Superior Design and the CIFP Las Indias, which will have their own stands, and will contribute to disseminating the professional opportunities offered by dual training related to the world of fashion.
PROGRAMMING
Among the programmed activities, 12 parades are planned, in which the works of 28 firms will be shown, among which are brands from ‘Tenerife Moda’, but also others from Gran Canaria, La Palma and Lanzarote.
On the other hand, the programming includes different ‘fashion talks’, with talks by professionals in the sector who will deal with the opportunities of the industry, ‘merchandising’, dual training or sustainable fashion.
Likewise, the fair hosts eight permanent exhibitions that combine fashion, art and crafts, among which a sample with practical advice to promote a sustainable fashion industry stands out.
