The groups that make up the plenary session of the Cabildo de Tenerife approved yesterday, with the exception of the PP, not to make pacts or agreements with parties of the extreme right, as stated in one of the proposals made by the PSOE in the framework of the Debate on the State of the Island, in which the parties presented 50. Specifically, the socialist spokesperson, Marián Franquet, described as “alarming” the rise “of the extreme right”, “which is produced by the hand of those parties that agree” with these formations. “That is why we propose to the political forces of this plenary session that no agreements be reached or concluded” with them, she defended.
Other proposals that went ahead, from the PSOE, were the encouragement of dual FP or a plan for the development of the audiovisual industry, among others. Meanwhile, from Ciudadanos, some of those that were approved were for the burying of Chayofita Avenue, in Los Cristianos, at its intersection with Juan Carlos I Avenue, or to start up a pediatric oncohematology unit in the HUC or in La Candelaria.
From Sí Podemos Canarias came forward the proposal to plan and create a coastal greenway between Las Teresitas and the little port of Güímar, the restoration of canceled lines of Titsa or the commitment to natural purification systems, among others. For its part, CC approved a comprehensive care program for people in severe poverty and social exclusion in homes, the creation of mental health bonuses for self-employed workers or the promotion of trains from the South and North. Meanwhile, from the PP, some of those that came forward were to study free public transport in buses for certain groups or the creation of resources for social and accommodation care for homeless people in the South and North.
The island president, Pedro Martín, began the debate by giving an account of the achievements made by Fecai under his presidency and of all the projects, programs and aid that have been launched by the Cabildo in the last year to help sectors, groups, SMEs and workers and strengthen areas, such as social action, “essential for us”, as well as municipal cooperation, employment and socioeconomic development or tourism, also betting on improving mobility through different projects.
“Today we have the lowest unemployment figures on the Island since 2009,” said Martín, who stated that “we have Tenerife in a better employment situation than the Island that left us” the CC government, whose spokesman, Carlos Alonso, He criticized the “fake news” that he released about incineration or other issues, such as the level of budget execution, on which he stated that “a third of the budget managed by CC did so through irregular procedures to disguise execution.” In addition, he criticized him that “we have had to spend a lot of time and work to put in order the tremendous number of companies that were in an irregular situation.” “I would ask Alonso for a little more collaboration, in the important matters of the Island, that we all go together, but in you I have found pure tacticism and trying to confront Sí Podemos Canarias with the PSOE,” he said.
The island president also highlighted the work carried out in tourism and stated that “we are going to leave Tenerife better connected than before the pandemic”. Regarding the participation of the Cabildo in the airline promoted by the hoteliers, he responded to the PP that “they have not changed their minds”, but that “it has been the businessmen themselves who have told us to wait, that they had to give us a new documentation. And regarding the train from the South, he maintained that his opinion has not changed: “I have never opposed it, but it has never been a priority and there are many doubts that no one has resolved. The question is whether we can embark on an adventure like the train to the South, when with that we are not going to solve the island’s mobility problems”.
For her part, the spokeswoman for the Socialists defended the leadership of the island president and that “the PSOE works with consensus, together with all the municipalities and with an investor balance”, and criticized the “inconsistencies” and the “disinformation campaign” of CC .
Budget Modification
Meanwhile, the insular vice president and spokesman for Ciudadanos, Enrique Arriaga, defended that “we have worked hard to get Tenerife going, which was paralyzed” and advocated “abandoning the perpetual conflict, which is the path that CC has chosen and the PP”, which he criticized, as well as Sí Podemos Canarias, who voted against the budget modification that was also brought to the Plenary that day and that did not go ahead, for 126 million in charge of the remainder of the Treasury, and that included items for various projects.
Specifically, he explained that he contemplated seven million for subsidies to municipalities for hiring the unemployed, emergency aid to Ukraine, 2.5 million to offset the cost of fuel and thus avoid a rise in bus and tram tickets. , contributions to Sinpromi projects, support for cultural festivals, four million for improvements in the center of La Tahonilla, five million to tender the motor circuit, 4.7 million for the works of the La Campana industrial estate, aid to the primary sector or the purchase of hybrid buses, among others. Arriaga indicated that he will convene an extraordinary plenary session to bring the approval of this modification back.
From Sí Podemos Canarias, its spokesperson, María José Belda, lamented the figures for hiring, unemployment and the poverty rate on the Island, and accused the Government of not promoting natural purification and that Iter “is being dismantled”.
Likewise, Belda was especially critical throughout her speech with Arriaga, going so far as to state that “we regret putting the mixed group, Mr. Arriaga, on the couch, who would have to resign due to his ineptitude, but even so we ensure that we continue from our position improving the policy applied by this Government”. She also wanted to point out that they only voted against the five million to the motor circuit.
Meanwhile, the CC spokesman, Carlos Alonso, maintained that “Tenerife is poorer and more vulnerable today than three years ago” and accused the Government of blaming “COVID and CC”. “You do not provide solutions to problems. Three years later it seems that they only do it to blame others. We have the most mediocre government in a long time”, he affirmed, criticizing the level of budget execution, the unemployment data, the lack of “capacity or leadership” or the paralysis or elimination of projects, among other issues. “Tenerife is closed, but not due to works but due to incapacity,” he indicated.
Likewise, Alonso criticized that the insular government did not support the 44 projects that it presented, within the framework of the budget modification of 126 million, and judged the weakness of the PSOE and Ciudadanos at the head of the Cabildo.
For its part, from the PP, its spokesperson, Zaida González, indicated that the insular government “has not been up to the task at any time.” “We are surprised by the zero results of his management, taking into account the experience of the PSOE, which has been part of this island government for the last 13 years and, therefore, is as responsible as CC for the situation of paralysis that we are experiencing today. . Mr. Martín, you preside over the government of excuses, ”she argued.
The island president, González also criticized that Sí Podemos Canarias and his support have forced him “to shut up and sweep under the rug what he so vehemently defended before sitting down in his chair as president, and that his will was kidnapped for fear of losing him. ”.
