The municipality of The Realejos will have a local energy community so that your neighbors can come together to save on the electricity billas announced by PSOE. This party has been the promoter of the motion approved in the last plenary session of the local Corporation to make possible the promotion of this initiative. This town follows in the footsteps of Tacorontewhich last January announced the start-up of the first local energy community in Tenerife and the second in the Canary Islands.
The Royal Socialists they achieved the support of the rest of the political forces to promote «a legal entity formed by a group of partners who, cooperatively, come together to generate energy from renewable sources. The 2030 Agenda approved by the UN for Sustainable Development includes these communities as an opportunity to lower the cost of energy and combat climate change.
The spokesman for the realejero PSOE, Miguel Agustin Garciastresses that with this proposal «The Realejos it can be placed at the forefront in the generation of clean energy, which will mean savings for our neighbors on the bill and a lower environmental impact». His initiative urges the City Council to lead the creation of a local energy community that involves residents and small businesses, so that they go from being consumers to being energy producers.
Tacoronte created in December 2021 the first entity of this type in Tenerife, the second in the Canary Islands
García is convinced that «The Realejos It has great potential to generate clean energy from, for example, the use of photovoltaic panels. And his proposal raises the realization of a study for the installation of these infrastructures in municipal public buildings, as well as the creation of the Local Office for Energy Efficiency and Self-consumption.
Earlier this year, a group of 13 residents of Tacoronte presented the first local energy community on the island, whose objective is to generate electricity for self-consumption in a clean and sustainable manner. They have the support of the Consistory and the Cabildo.
This local Tacoronte energetic community was officially constituted on December 23, 2021. The association model was chosen over the cooperative model because “it requires less bureaucracy and greatly simplifies procedures.” Its objective: produce energy with renewable sources and acquire greater control over the impact of energy consumption on the cost of your bills. A cooperative could enter the energy market, but an association does not sell, it simply shares the energy it generates among the associated people.
