SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, meeting today in ordinary session under the chairmanship of its head, Carlos González, has agreed to put out to tender the works corresponding to the second phase of the restoration works of the Nature Reserve Red Mountain Special, phase II, for a base tender budget of 491,828.06 euros and an execution period of ten months.
These works are configured as one of the compensatory measures for the execution of the port of Granadilla, included as such in the Environmental Impact Statement of the aforementioned port and published in the Official State Gazette dated February 26, 2003.
The actions that are going out to tender today are part of the agreement to that effect agreed by the Port Authority and the Cabildo de Tenerife, dated May 27, 2019, whose purpose is the development of joint measures between both entities to improve the naturalness of the environment , recovering as far as possible the original landscape and habitats that have been transformed by activities carried out in the area in the past. The corresponding works must be carried out respecting the breeding periods of the avifauna species and the biological cycles of the flora to be planted.
More specifically, the elimination of structures built in the past and currently out of use, such as remains of military constructions, sewers, wells and greenhouses, even invasive exotic species that have settled in the space object of the works, is planned. Action will also be taken to limit access to the car park and improve the network of existing trails, including improvements to signage.
The scope of the restoration project is the Protected Natural Area of the Montaña Roja Special Nature Reserve, in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona. With Territorial Law 12/1987, of June 19, on the Declaration of Protected Natural Areas of the Canary Islands, the Montaña Roja Natural Area of National Interest was created in this territory. Subsequently, its limits were modified and it was reclassified by Law 12/1994, of December 19, on Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands as a Special Nature Reserve.
FLOATING DOCK.
During today’s session, the president of Puertos de Tenerife, Carlos González, also reported to the Council on the already effective concession to Tenerife Shipyards for the installation of a floating dock in the port of Granadilla, a concession that at the time was pending that the Palumbo floating dock abandon the land that is the object of this concession, an end that has already been fulfilled and has allowed the president to sign the concession.
With this action, progress is made in the process to relaunch ship repair activity in the port of Granadilla, in line with the roadmap established by its management team to configure it as a hub for this purpose.
