Cross port went back out on the street this May 3 to celebrate their patron saint festivities, paying honors to the Holy Cross with adorned beams, Eucharist and the long-awaited procession, three years later, of the beautiful silver cross from the 17th century that is venerated in the Parish of Our Lady of the Rock of France.
The day began early in the morning with the Eucharistic act in the Cross of the Lonjasdedicated to the city’s fishermen and carefully cared for by Ireland Perez. Throughout the day, residents and visitors toured various corners of the city to enjoy more than 130 adorned crosses, 30 chapels and nine artistic crosses, ephemeral works of art that have adorned key points in the municipality since last year 2021.
The mayor of Porto Marco Gonzalez (PSOE), dedicated the traditional speech intended to remember “this annual appointment of the city with its origins” and expressed his pride for “the recovery of all the acts that identify this city with its cross in the streets”. In addition, he made the traditional floral offering to the Cross of municipal workers in the courtyard of the former convent of Santo Domingo which was followed by the interpretation by the Puerto de la Cruz Music Band of the anthem dedicated to the city.
Like on May 3, 2019, after mass, the cross paraded again through the most central streets of Cross port before hundreds of people who crowded the main roads around the fishing dock. At the tip of the winda traditional dance was offered in her honor, and in the Plaza del Charco she was entertained by the traditional fireworks.
