Santa Cruz de Tenerife will celebrate tomorrow, Tuesday, the 3rd, the 528th anniversary of its foundation, with a complete program of activities that will begin at 09:00 with the celebration of the Cross Contest made with Natural Flowers.
On this occasion, the contest has the participation of 14 creations that represent different neighborhood and cultural associations of the capital, and whose crosses will be valued by a jury made up of the Craftsmanship technician of the Island Council of Tenerife and a maker of crosses from flowers, Juan Carlos Camacho González; the senior technician in Applied Arts, window dresser and expert in floral art, Moisés Norberto Pérez Carrillo and the designer and artist linked to the May Festivities, Francisco Javier Romero Martín.
Likewise, the Rambla de Santa Cruz will host 17 flower crosses made by different entities of Santa Cruz. This space will also host the XIV School Cross Contest, which in this edition has 24 crosses made by 18 educational centers in the municipality with recycled materials. The specialists in charge of awarding the prizes are the graduate in Fine Arts, illustrator and designer, Evelyn Reiriz Vieira; the graduate in Applied Arts, Cristina Rodríguez Mijares; and the graduate in Fine Arts and graphic designer, Esther Rufino García.
The events scheduled for the big day of the founding festivities include the religious function officiated by the bishop of the Nivariense Diocese, Bernardo Álvarez, sung by the Choir of Grave Voices of the El Cabo Artistic Union, which commemorates the 528th anniversary of the city, and which will take place in the Matriz de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción parish, at 7:00 p.m.
Once the religious act is over, the procession will begin with the Holy Cross, which will be attended by Ángel Víctor Torres, as well as civil and military authorities, touring the streets of Santo Domingo, Calzada La Noria and Padre Moore.
In addition, tomorrow concludes, in the García Sanabria park, the XLV Regional Exhibition of Flowers, Plants and Traditional Canarian Crafts, with a program that includes a double performance of Gorgoritos, at 12:00 and 18:00. Likewise, the awards ceremony for the children’s Drawing and Painting contests will take place at 1:00 p.m., as well as the winners of the different modalities of the Crafts and Flowers and Plants contests, on the stage located next to the source of fertility. The closing ceremony will be at 9:00 p.m. and will feature a performance by the Orígenes Folk Group.
