Three wind farms will contribute another 48 megawatts to the network in Granadilla and Arico

At 48.11 megawatts, the production of three new wind farms to be developed in Granadilla de Abona and Arico, which has a conditioned Environmental Impact Statement. These are the accumulated projects called Tomillo and Pocitos Wind Farms –with a unit power of 20.79 MW– and Finca San Juan, with 17.32 MW, promoted by Siemens Gamesa, as well as the 10 MW Granadilla Central Wind Farm, powered by Enel Green Power Spain.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning published the conditioned Environmental Impact Statement of this group of wind farms, which received allegations from individuals, organizations and public administrations.

San Juan farm.

It will have five wind turbines of 3,465 kilowatts (kW) of unit power and will be located “in an eminently agricultural area, with scattered farms (many of them in a state of abandonment) and numerous greenhouses.” Among the closest towns, all of them more than 2 kilometers away, to the south, Abades, Jardín del Atlántico and La Jaca stand out; and to the north, the Villa de Arico. Access is through two tracks that start from the TF-629 road, which joins the highway with the Villa.

Pocitos.

It is located in Arico and Granadilla de Abona. The six 3,465 kilowatt wind turbines (with a total rated power of 20.79 MW), its assembly platforms and its roads will be in an area with numerous agricultural plots in a state of abandonment in Arico, near the insular landfill and the quarry of Cantos Blancos del Sur. Among the closest towns of interest are Villa de Arico, Chimiche, El Río, Barranco del Río, La Caleta, Las Arenas and San Miguel de Tajao. The access will be through the highway of the River, which connects the general highway of the South with the highway. The land in Granada affected by this project corresponds, in essence, to the layout of the evacuation lines.

Thyme.

It also affects both municipalities and under similar conditions, although the closest towns in this case are La Cisnera (by whose road the wind farm is accessed), Villa de Arico, Tajao, La Jaca and Las Listadas. The evacuation line is the one that enters Granadilla de Abona through the lower edge of the motorway.

It should be noted that the City Council of Arico, both the local government (which proposed compensatory measures) and the opposition -separately-, are among those that presented allegations and opposed these projects for affecting the birdlife and archaeological sites and failing to comply with the use authorized land to occupy.

Central.

It will be located within the grounds of the Granadilla thermal power plant, located in the Granadilla Industrial Estate, and the evacuation line for the energy generated will run along the roadsides and common areas of the Estate to the ITER substation. The wind farm is made up of two 5,000 kilowatt wind turbines and the installation of a medium voltage electrical system that will transport the energy produced by the wind turbines to a distribution and control center from which the energy produced will be controlled, protected and evacuated to the connection points. The wind farm promoted by Endesa included allegations issued by the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and one from an individual, as specifically reflected in the official publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).
