SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 1. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Secretary of Organization of the Canarian PSOE, Nira Fierro, has pointed out that the agreement reached this week by the Government of Spain and the Government of the Canary Islands, which closes the conflict of the Road Agreement, is “one of the best news of this legislature” for the Archipelago.
Fierro recalled that the origin of this matter was “the non-compliance and laziness of the Government of the Popular Party chaired by Mariano Rajoy”, while “the definitive solution has been the result of the commitment to the word of the current president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Towers”.
“It is shown, once again, that the word yields more to the Canary Islands. The Government of Spain complies and Ángel Víctor Torres complies”, said the secretary of the Socialist Organization, alluding to the public commitment made in 2019 by the leader socialist that he would give a consensual solution to this dispute, which Fierro has described as “historical heritage”.
By virtue of the agreement closed by Torres, the number two of the PSOE Canarias has detailed that this autonomous community finally ensures the liquidation of the total debt that the Government of Spain had with it due to the breaches that occurred during the period 2012-2017, stage in which the Popular Party ruled in Madrid and chaired the Canary Coalition Regional Executive.
The Canary Islands will have access to the 407.4 million euros of unexecuted work that were pending resolution, once the negotiation of the 500 million of the executed work had already been closed. Of this last amount, 300 million have already been transferred, leaving the remaining 238 million (38 million in interest) for 2023.
For its part, the 407 million will be delivered by the State in two annuities of 203 million each in 2026 and 2027. “All this will make it possible to raise annual spending on roads to 240 million, an unprecedented figure in the Canary Islands”, Fierro pointed out.
