“It has not only been a rush of pride, but also a great surprise that a wine made from a hundred-year-old Listán Blanco strain has surpassed the Malvasías as the best wine in the Canary Islands,” he says. Diego Reveronmanager of Bodegas Reverón, the winery that his father Eugenio Reverón Sierra started in 1947 in the area called Los Quemados, in La Escalona, in the municipality of Vilaflor de Chasna.
One of the stellar wines from a family winery that boasts of having evolved every year in search of the highest quality, “always aware of the weather, but with the certainty that the volcanic soil helps us create wines that can compete worldwide , like almost all those in the south of Tenerife”, says the manager of Bodegas Reveronto add that “we will be doing something right when they reward us in this way”.
“Thanks to our technicians -he points out- there is a before and after in Canarian organic wines and the growth that our sector is experiencing is being noted, because we have learned to suffer, always adapting to the weather, which is why some years we have wines good and others excellent”, he commented. Among them, the barrel-aged red wine, also awarded the gold medal, in the same competition.

The naturally sweet Pagos de Reverón wine was recognized with the award for Best Wine of the Canary Islands 2022 in it Agrocanarias Official Contest organized by the Canarian Institute of Agrifood Quality (ICCA), attached to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of the Canary Islands. The history of Bodegas Reveron

In March 2006, at the age of 89 and with the subway in hand, Eugenio Reverón Sierra discussed with Diego, his son, the peculiarities of an exciting project that at the same time scared him, the expansion of his old warehouse, in the one that since 1947 produced its wine in bulk and in which it had already begun to produce two new wines, one semi-dry white and one red, bottled under the Finca Reverón brand.
Eugenio Reverón Sierra (1916-2010) had been working in the vineyards, among other things, since 1946. “I bought grapes and started making wine, although everything was more complicated than now, all the wine we made was sold, but we had to take it in jugs, by hand, because there was nothing paved”, he recalled.
It was Diego Reverón, Eugenio’s son, who managed to convince his father to recover the family land and turn it into vineyards to produce quality grapes, equip the winery with new technologies, create recreation and recreation areas focused on visitors with walks between vineyards, a shop with products made on the farm, animals that facilitate the natural fertilization of the plants, organic crops and guided tours of the winery.
The vineyards, located 1,300 meters above sea level, in the highest municipality in the Canary Islands, Vilaflor, occupy some 17 hectares. Correct management of the soil, to which only organic matter of biological origin is added, an exhaustive control of the crop, by variety and plot, and a careful selection of the raw material, result in exclusive wines of great character and personality.
The grape varieties are perfectly adapted to the climate, height and needs of organic farming, the most common being the listán blanco for dry whites and fruity whites and the listán negro, tempranillo, castellana and cabernet sauvignon for reds.
