SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 30 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Popular Party in the Cabildo de Tenerife will present, during the Debate on the State of the Island to be held next Wednesday, a total of ten proposals for resolutions that contain the strategic lines of action that “it is necessary to set in motion to get Tenerife of the paralysis in which it finds itself immersed”.
The spokeswoman for the Popular Party in the Island Institution, Zaida González, announced that her proposals contain initiatives related to the importance of investing in public tourist spaces, promoting the development of large infrastructures “for which we have been waiting for decades and that are paralyzed in today”, the requirement to guarantee resources and tools to the most vulnerable groups, mobility or support for the primary sector.
González explained, in this sense, that the proposals that they are going to defend intend to become an incentive in the definitive process of economic recovery of Tenerife, always from a structuring and transversal point of view, because they understand that the inaction in this last mandate, marked due to passivity and lack of leadership, it has hampered the Island’s possibilities of getting ahead on the road to progress.
The spokeswoman for the popular has emphasized that the Cabildo must recover its role of reference in the institutional sphere of Tenerife, working as an entity of social, political and territorial cohesion.
“With this objective, from the Popular Party we have always reached out to the island government and we will continue to do so so that the president has the peace of mind to rely on us, without any consideration, when he needs to defend and carry out the great projects that Tenerife needs, such as the southern train, the installation of the regasification plant as a step on the road to cleaner energy production, the new airport terminal, and of course, the defense of our tourism model”.
RESOLUTION PROPOSALS
The resolution proposals that the Popular Party will take to the Debate on the State of the Island are to increase investment in the tourist space to maintain the competitiveness of Tenerife as a top international tourist destination, showing that the Cabildo is committed to the main economic activity of the Island and reversing the current dynamics, after the 40% cut in tourism investment in the last budget.
Study free public transport for certain groups. This measure, which is aimed especially at people over 65 years of age, patients from the two reference hospitals on the Island and university students, is emerging as a tool that helps to decongest the roads, betting on more sustainable mobility.
Creation of social care and accommodation resources for homeless people in the South and North of the Island. The coronavirus health crisis caused a social and economic crisis that has negatively affected many Tenerife families. There are data that indicate that the Canary Islands are at the head of the country in terms of extreme poverty. In Tenerife, ‘homelessness’ is a problem that is increasing and it is the responsibility of the Cabildo to find effective solutions, say the popular.
Condemn the unilateral actions of the kingdom of Morocco, its expansionist desire over the Canary Islands, the foreign policy of the Government of the nation and urge to provide better resources to the armed forces.
Specific subsidy plan for companies that hire people who have been trained in their own training projects or in which the Cabildo collaborates mainly. Link the training offered to market niches
Complete the healthcare portfolio of hospitals in the North and South. The PP understands that the Cabildo must actively claim that these two infrastructures become real hospitals as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of this administration to endorse the social demands and lead the claims in terms of solving the health deficiencies suffered by our Island, they add.
Create an independent body for the management of European recovery funds. According to the Popular Group, the administrative burden suffered by administrations sometimes means that own funds cannot be properly managed. After Europe’s announcement of setting up funds for the economic recovery after the coronavirus crisis, it is necessary to have tools that allow accessing and managing these funds effectively, with the aim of not losing them.
Advance in the implementation of renewable energies. For the PP, it is strictly necessary to start, with urgency, the path to implement renewable energies on the Island, which is why they propose that the Hydroelectric Power Plant that is projected for Tenerife be located in the Güímar valley.
Actions and measures of direct support to the primary sector. The increase in production costs is suffocating the island’s primary sector. The Cabildo has the obligation to guarantee its survival, the popular supporters maintain.
Establish an economic collaboration plan with the municipalities to improve drinking water networks. Provide personal and economic means to the Insular Water Council to establish direct collaboration with municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants, with the aim of correcting water losses in the supply networks managed directly by the municipalities.
