
The jury of the Election Gala of the Queen of the May 2022 Festivitiesheld last night before more than 1,500 people in the Plaza de La Candelaria de Santa Cruz of Tenerifeappointed the young Laura María Rodríguez Puertas, dressed in the typical costume “Gangochera del Puerto de la Cruz”, queen of the founding celebrations of the capital on behalf of the Salsa Canaria Cultural Association, in a contest in which a total of 35 applicants.
The Ladies of Honor of the new Queen of the City’s Foundational Festivities are Carla Rodríguez, with the costume “Woman from La Palma in Sunday dress”, on behalf of Mamel’s Festive Musician Cultural Association; Raisa González, from the Tamaragua Cultural Center, with the costume “Woman from Lanzarote in daily dress”, as 2nd Lady; Claudia Gil, from the AAVV La Era y El Trigo, dressed in the “Lanzarote Woman in Daily Dress”, 3rd Lady, and the 4th Lady, Lizett Ramos, from the Association of Designers and Artisans of the Carnival, in the costume “Manto and Saya from Los Llanos de Aridane”.
The gala, organized by the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, through the Autonomous Organism for Festivities and Recreational Activities, OAFAR, was directed by Javier Caraballero, and began at 9:00 p.m., with Elvis Sanfiel as the host of a show that brought together an artistic cast that represents the best voices of the Canary Archipelago.
The 35 aspiring queen paraded dressed in typical Canarian dress before a jury made up of María del Carmen Almenara Ramos, fashion specialist and artisan in traditional Canarian clothing; María Esperanza González González, member of the Sectorial Council of traditional costumes; Natanael Padrón Navarro, cultural manager of the Insular Craft Company; Manuel Ángel Hernández Rodríguez, artisan in traditional costumes and fashion specialist technician, and Carmen Eugenia Afonso Perdomo, artistic director and choreographer of Galas de las Fiestas de Mayo.
