Two cheeses from Tenerife, a semi-cured smoked goat cheese from the Quesería de Benijos and a cured sheep cheese from 5senti2, were among the best in their category at the 12th edition of the Spanish Championship, to which more than 800 varieties were submitted. The event was held within the framework of the XXXV Salón Gourmets de Madrid.
Tenerife displayed its gastronomic proposals for three days at this prestigious gastronomic fair in Madrid, based on the best of the island’s primary sector. A total of 2,200 professionals passed through the Tenerife stand. Importers, chefs, companies or sommeliers were able to meet and taste island products such as extra virgin olive oil, cheese, honey, liqueurs or wines.
The councilor of the Cabildo Javier Parrilla values the participation “to consolidate the gastronomic destination”. He emphasizes that teaching quality “forces us to work on a new line of marketing towards the gourmet market.” He considers as balance that Tenerife “has stood out and surprised with its proposal of innovation, tradition and sustainability”. It should be noted that the leftover food was donated to the Madrid Food Bank.
