Six hundred students from the schools of San Miguel de Abona are the target of I am not your toy, an awareness campaign on the care of pets developed by the Canarian Federation of Associations for the Protection of Animals and Plants (Fecacap) and the Foundation for Nature and the Canarian Environment, with the support of the City Council.
In addition to visits to a shelter for abandoned animals, where students will be involved in the protection, empathy, care and defense of pets to prevent abandonment and mistreatment, talks will be given in educational centers. The first ones took place in the El Monte and El Roque schools, where the monitors stressed that pets are a member of the family, that they need attention and care. The initiative will reach the students of CEIP Llano de las Naciones on May 13, 22 and 23, and La Aldea, on May 27 and 31.
Raising awareness of the responsible use of public spaces is one of the aspects to influence, as well as the obligation for dogs of a breed considered potentially dangerous to wear a muzzle, apart from being in possession of a compulsory license and a chip, in addition to highlighting vaccination of pets.
