Electricity price chart for April 28, 2022 in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife

In the 28 days of April, the price of electricity reaches an average of 190.87 euros/MWh, about 33% below the value of March, the most expensive month in history with 283.3 euros/ MWh.

The costs of the wholesale market have a direct impact on the regulated tariff or PVPC to which almost 11 million consumers in Spain are covered, and serve as a reference for the other 17 million who contract their supply on the free market.

Domestic consumers with a regulated rate, which represent 40% of the total, will be precisely the most benefited from the “political agreement” reached this Tuesday by Spain and Portugal with the European Commission to limit the impact of the gas price on the wholesale electricity market.

Although it has yet to be made official, it will start with an average gas price of 40 euros/MWh, to stabilize at around 50 euros on average during the period in which this measure, which is temporary and will last twelve months, is in force.

Once in operation, also will benefit up to 80% of industrial electricity consumers, cYour invoices are also linked to the results of the “pool”.

Although the details are yet to be known, the Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, said this morning in the Congress of Deputies that it will be financed through a “very important reduction in the extraordinary profits of the electricity companies that use other technologies that have not been affected in their costs and are, however, remunerated at the maximum price of the system”.

Similarly, “it will be necessary to distribute” the adjustment between the fixed ceiling and the real price of this raw material on the market “among energy consumers”.

High electricity prices are also a constant in the rest of the countries of the Old Continent.

For tomorrow, the highest average price will be given, once again, in Italy (242.77 euros/MWh), followed by France (230.2 euros/MWh), Germany (230.15 euros/MWh), and the United Kingdom. United (189.79 pounds/MWh, about 225.30 euros).

For its part, in Portugal, which shares a market with Spain, it will be slightly below the national average, at 224.26 euros/MWh.
