
The Municipality of La Lagunafrom the Fiestas area, is already working on the organization of the San Benito Abad festivities, which take place next July and will return to normal, with the celebration of the San Benito Magi Dance and its emblematic pilgrimage, declared of national tourist interest and the only one in the Canary Islands with a regional category, and which this year will celebrate its 75th edition. “It is one of the most expected and with the largest number of people and we are going to make a pilgrimage to live up to it, not only for the pilgrimage itself, but for everything that is going to surround it,” said the councilor of the area, Badel Albelo.
Specifically, the mayor explained that the program will start on June 30 with the reading of the proclamation at the Leal Theater, while on July 1 there will be the election gala for the children’s and elderly pilgrims, and on July 2 , the gala of the largest pilgrimage of the festivities.
Next, on the 5th, the act of homage to the trades and people of San Benito will take place, with the collaboration of Agate, and on the 6th, together with the Orfeón La Paz, the Festival Exaltación de la Mujer Canaria. While on July 7 there will be the traditional offering to the saint, in which, “through the agricultural cooperative of San Benito, we deliver some offerings so that later the most needy families can come to the parish and take the baskets that are made with essential food,” explained the councilman.
The Dance of the Magi of San Benito, in solidarity
One of the most important dates on the calendar will arrive on July 8 with the Dance of the Magi of San Benito, which will be held in its traditional location in the surroundings of Plaza de La Concepción. “As a novelty, we are studying this year, through the Friends and Romeros de San Benito association, to make the draw for the tables by means of reservation charging 10 euros, and that money collected will be given to Cáritas, also for the most needy families. of the environment.
Normally it was done for free, but we are going to do the format that is done in Santa Cruz and in other dances of magicians who charge the tables, it is being studied, ”Badel Albelo explained. In addition, “other years there have been about 400 tables with 10 people each, but we have to study it because it may be reduced a bit, but we still do not have definitive data,” he pointed out.
In addition, “we recovered the stage for the San Benito Magi Dance and the day of the pilgrimage”, as well as “the videomapping projections in the tower of La Concepción” on the 8th and 9th. As a novelty, “there will be eight exhibitions in the streets of the town extolling our eight islands”.
