SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, said this Tuesday that the archipelago is consolidated as a “preferred destination” to host audiovisual filming, as shown by the balance of activity in 2021, with 155 productions and almost 100 million euros of investment .
In response to a question from the Socialist Group in the control session, he assessed these figures because in 2021 there was an “important discussion” with the central government regarding the Canarian jurisdiction and tax incentives and now he defends the use of European funds to improve training in the sector and generate “new niches” of employment with people who are trained in the Canary Islands.
In his opinion, the audiovisual sector has “a present and a magnificent future”.
Nira Fierro, president of the Socialist Group, has pointed out that the audiovisual sector underpins “economic diversification” on the islands and after a past year in which “a lot” and “malicious” and “confusion” was talked about, accusing the socialists that they were going to “load” the industry and the productions “would go to another land”.
On the contrary, the audiovisual sector is an “opportunity” for the Canarian economy and has “palpable fruits” such as the almost 100 million investment and 4,000 contracts last year alone.
