SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has assured this Tuesday in the control session to the Government that the Autonomous Community will no longer be the “red lantern” of the Unit this year and reiterated that when the Legislature ends they will deliver “better data ” than those who collected in July 2019.
This has been stated in response to two questions about the opinion of the State Observatory for Dependency, which places the Canary Islands as the worst of all the autonomous communities in the management of coverage for dependent people, made by the spokesman for the Popular Parliamentary Group , Manuel Domínguez, and the spokesperson for the Mixed Group, Vidina Espino.
Ángel Víctor Torres admitted that the data from the Observatory, referring to 2021, “are not good” and acknowledged that they are not happy, but he blamed them on the problems that occurred last year in terms of personnel and, especially, the lack of social workers .
However, Torres affirmed that this situation has been corrected this year and in January, February and March it has managed to incorporate up to 1,000 people into the dependency system in a few months, so if it continues like this “we will deliver at the end of the legislature in Unit better data than those we collected when we arrived at the Government.
That said, the spokesman for the Popular Parliamentary Group, Manuel Domínguez, stated that the Canarian president is “not ambitious” because delivering better data than that of 2019 is “simply simple” because the PSOE was part of the Government that left those same data .
Manuel Domínguez wanted to make it clear that Ángel Víctor Torres is the only one responsible for what is happening in Dependency matters in the Canary Islands because “he has a calculator in his hand pending what the results of the next elections are going to be in order to reach possible agreements, not whether it damages Podemos and it is missing in those future agreements”.
In response, the president reminded the popular deputy that the best year of service in Dependency in the history of the Canary Islands was 2016, when the person in charge of the area was the socialist Patricia Hernández, and assured that 2022 will be even better than that year, ” in both cases, the Popular Party being in opposition because they have never believed in the Unit,” added Torres.
Meanwhile, the spokeswoman for the Mixed Group, Vidina Espino, accused the Canarian government of “make up” the statistics and “spend the money” on a campaign “of smoke and propaganda” under the slogan ‘Canarias takes care of you’. “This is not about making up the statistics, but about serving people who have a right by law, or offering ‘shitty help’ as the former director general of Dependency, Miguel Montero, said. The motto should be changed to Canarias, it doesn’t take care of you Canary Islands abandons you”.
In his reply, Ángel Víctor Torres denied that the Government of the Canary Islands is making propaganda with the campaign ‘The Canary Islands take care of you’, and reiterated that what the Executive is doing is “correcting things and delivering a Canary Islands better than the one we picked up”, as well as “doing what the Dependency Law clearly says and, in the face of complicated circumstances, responding,” he concluded.
