The transfer of land from 16 neighbors allows the completion of the widening of a road

The Las Rosas road, in the upper area of the municipality of El Rosarioexpands to make way for a street with the necessary width to allow the passage of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks or the Forestry Brigades (Brifor), something especially important on a road that is in the interface zone, it is that is to say, the one in which houses and the characteristic vegetation of this rural area converge.

The process began in 2019 and has had in neighborhood solidarity the main reason for it to come to fruition. This is highlighted by the mayor of El Rosario, Scholastic Gilwhich had already promoted similar changes in other surrounding areas, such as the paths of the Center or Lomo Juan Diego, as well as in other more remote areas such as the Machado or Llano del Moro nuclei. “They have never said no to the free transfer of land because it is to improve the lives of their own neighbors and that is appreciated”explains the local councillor.

The final phase of this action takes place in about 500 linear meters that will widen the road from the current two meters to beyond seven in certain sections. In this last stage, in which 16 neighbors have given land, the work contemplates a financing of 220,000 euros, including materials, equipment and labor, made up of workers belonging to the El Rosario Local Employment Plan.

“We perform a double function: we improve the living conditions of our neighbors and, in addition, other neighbors who are the workers of the Local Employment Plan do it”, highlights Escolástico Gil. In this sense, it should be specified that El Rosario is one of the only eleven municipalities of the 88 in the Canary Islands that has carried out, in collaboration with Fecam, its own employment plan.

The reform of the Las Rosas road was initiated by municipal workers in 2019 with different conditioning actions, adaptation of walls and widening of the road in different sections. After the completion of the works, this road will have the adequate width for the passage of two vehicles, one in each direction, in practically its entire length. In total, some thirty owners have donated land.

It should be noted that many of the roads in Las Rosas and other similar towns are not wide enough for two cars to pass through, despite being two-way roads, as they form part of the network of agricultural roads in the more rural area of El Rosario. . These are narrow roads, in the style of others that run through the cultivation area, and where there have been “serious problems” with the entry of ambulances or other emergency vehicles, according to the mayor of Rosario regarding the need for action.

Above these lines, the mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, visits the works; to the left and below, other images of the action that is being carried out in the area.
