SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 25 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through Sinpromi, has convened the II Giro-Arte Painting Contest, which has the objective of giving visibility and valuing the artistic works made by people with intellectual disabilities, promoting access to art as a means of expression and social inclusion.
The regional Contest, organized by the Giro-Arte Plastic Arts Workshop of Sinpromi, will recognize the best works in the painting technique carried out by people with intellectual disabilities residing in the Autonomous Community.
The third vice president and island councilor for Social Action, Marián Franquet, stressed that this event “reinforces the participation and artistic visibility of people with intellectual disabilities, recognizing, rewarding and valuing their talent.”
Marián Franquet recalled that Sinpromi promotes projects and initiatives linked to diversity and art, as a universal language and heritage of all people, opening new opportunities for inclusion.
To participate in this contest it is required to be a resident in the Canary Islands and have an accredited intellectual disability by means of a certificate issued by the competent Social Services. Each participant may submit a maximum of two original works, with a free theme and technique, within the discipline of painting and in a minimum format of 50 cm and a maximum of 100 cm. The deadline for receiving the works will be until October 14.
The jury of this contest will award a first prize, which will receive artistic material valued at 300 euros, as well as two second prizes, to which a certificate of recognition will be awarded.
Sinpromi promotes social and labor integration, as well as improving the quality of life of people with disabilities on the island of Tenerife.
With this objective, in 1995 he began a creative experience aimed at people with intellectual disabilities, setting up the Giro-Arte Plastic Arts Workshop.
Through an individualized methodology, this workshop favors the comprehensive development of students, promoting their creative abilities and facilitating access to culture and art, as a means of expression and social inclusion.
Among the actions, developed through the Workshop, is the call for this Contest which, in its first edition, included the presentation of 32 works, which showed the diversity of expression and artistic talent.
