The recreational area of the Barranco de La Madera, on the island of La Gomera, has opened to the public after the completion of the improvement works in this area located on the route of the GM-1, and which will be managed by the City Council of Hermigua.
This has been reported by the Cabildo, which adds that this infrastructure has had an investment of more than 167,000 euros as a result of the cooperation between the island institution and the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands with the aim of improving tourist facilities in the framework of the commitment to the quality and excellence of the tourist destination.
In this regard, the insular president, Casimiro Curbelo, assured that the objective is to transform the island’s roads into “viewpoints open to the landscape, for which the incorporation of recreational areas of this type provides added value to this objective.”
He also pointed out that it is the first to be created on GM-1, the road that connects the capital with the northern municipalities, and that it is added to the one opened two years ago on GM-3 and those existing at various points. of the GM-2.
For her part, the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, highlighted the commitment to “continue working on the tourism model that all Gomerans want to consolidate on the Island: a more sustainable model with a that enhances the unique natural environment it offers, allowing us to remain an authentic international destination of great value”.
Similarly, he recognized the importance that this type of action has for improving the image of the Canary Islands destination as a whole, “hence the need to continue promoting tourist infrastructure under the premises of quality, diversity and sustainability and the work that today we present is a clear example of this”.
After the execution of the works, the recreational area of the Barranco de La Madera has a space distributed in three areas. On the one hand, an area dedicated to leisure, with eight pergolas and the same number of tables.
On that same surface, there are other urban furniture elements, in addition to a wooden platform complemented with benches in order to enable a rest space.
Meanwhile, the place dedicated to recreation has a children’s area with special pavement, with inclusive games for ages up to 12 years; a rustic wooden swing, a seesaw and a set of games made up of a hexagonal tower.
Taking into account the situation of the recreational area of the Barranco de La Madera and its integration with the natural environment, it has been reinforced with the provision of landscaped spaces with species typical of the area, in such a way that the least possible impact has been generated.
