The Municipality of La Laguna will create an ordinance to regulate the occupation of the public domain with tables, chairs and parasols, that is, to hotel terracesoutside the historic center, since, until now, there is only a regulation for the old town, but not for the rest of the municipality.
This was approved last Thursday by the Plenary, unanimously, based on a motion of Citizens agreed with the Government group, and in which it is also stated that the drafting is undertaken before the end of this 2022.
The Councilor for Works, the area that has delegated this competence, Josimar Hernández, explained yesterday that, before COVID and the approval of temporary authorizations for express terraces, these spaces outside the town were managed “through the activity license , but regulation as an ordinance, it was only in the hull, from now on we are going to regulate it for the entire municipality and the hotel business will have a safe legal framework where they know the conditions they have to comply with”.
As the ordinance is drafted and comes into force, for the around 500 establishments that installed new terraces or expanded them under the decree that the Mayor’s Office brought out during the period of COVID restrictions, “supporting us on the ordinance for the hull, we will give occupations in the public domain until the ordinance comes out, because perhaps there are those who already meet the technical criteria for their terrace to be fixed”, added the mayor.
Those interested can make the corresponding request and the necessary procedures through the Department of Works, so that its viability can be analyzed and, where appropriate, approved by the municipal technical service.
It should be remembered that the Lagunero City Council recently reported that the mayor of La Laguna had sent a letter to the catering establishments that at the time installed temporary terraces on public roads, so that they proceed to gradually remove them, every time that the Government of the Canary Islands had established the end of the restrictions associated with the pandemic.
