The managing director of Hogar Santa Rita asks the institutions for confidence

The managing director of Home Santa Rita, Thomas Villarhas reappeared in a video shared on the social networks of the Santa Rita Home Foundationwhich manages the largest residence for the elderly Canary Islandsto ask public institutions to «Trust in this center because I think we have earned it over time and with our work».

“We have been lending a hand to society for 30 years from this corner of Cross porttrying to help families who cannot access public places have one more option to be able to live and enjoy these facilities,” Villar assured before reiterating the request to public institutions to “trust this center and continue to accompany and support us.” Why we we will continue with our work from the clarity and not from the lie. And we make our facilities available to all of them.”

Villar’s message, issued on April 20, It is prior to the announcement by the councilor for Social Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife and president of the IASS, Marián Franquetthat they have requested the Home Santa Rita a change in management, which would directly affect Thomas Villar. Franquet complains of “opacity in management” and announces that they will “formally” request to join the board of trustees of the foundation that directs and manages the residence.

During the 29 minutes that the video lasts, Thomas Villar insists on sending “a message of calm” regarding the cases of Covid-19 detected in the latest outbreak, which he says has affected “between 14 and 15% of residents and between 5 and 6% of workers”. He maintains that they are mild cases and that “it has only been necessary to transfer four residents to health centers, who are already well.” He considers it “unfair” that the focus is on the Covid cases of the Home Santa Rita “Because our figures are not alarming.”

The managing director of Hogar Santa Ritainvestigated in a judicial proceeding to clarify whether there were crimes in the management of the nursing home in the worst moments of the pandemic, explains that the center currently serves 490 residentsalthough its maximum capacity is 710. As announced, the home has an isolation area for Covid cases with 50 places and other units enabled in case an extension is necessary.
