Enabled a telephone to report on injured wild animals in Tenerife

The La Tahonilla Wildlife Recovery Center, dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife, has set up a free telephone number so that the population can report the findings of injured wild animals.

In a statement, the insular Natural Environment Management area recalls that in the spring and early summer months it is common for baby birds to fall from their nests in the process of their first flights. Many people and organizations go to the center when they find chicks on the ground, on many occasions presenting injuries, or at least appearing so.

Councilor Isabel García explains that recently there have been several arrivals in La Tahonilla of owls or kestrels that are picked up by people who find them on the ground.

These are birds of prey that must be collected according to certain indications and transferred to the center, and for this a free telephone has been enabled, through which the fauna staff of the Cabildo will come to collect the animal.

If it were more common birds, such as blackbirds, for example, the appropriate thing would be to pick them up carefully and place them on a branch near the nest, says Alejandro Suárez, a veterinarian at the center.

If these specimens are taken to the recovery center, it is most likely that they will not survive, which is why it is always emphasized that they be left in the area where they have been found.

If it were birds of prey and you have access to their nest, it is recommended to place them back in it, but since they are common at high altitudes, you must notify them on 900282228 to be transferred to the recovery center, where they can be provided with of food and survive in the facilities without problem.

The phone that has been enabled is the 900-282-228.
