Santa Cruz It has 1,538 companies that make up the commercial fabric of the capital, distributed in the 14 Open Commercial Areas (ZCA) with which the municipality has, areas in which 200,000 euros will be invested with the aim of offering, in the most individualized way possible, the improvement of the weight of businesses within its closest environment, as well as promoting the whole of shops in each of the ZCA. Guided routes to attract consumers who want to learn more about the history of the different neighbourhoods, but also training in window dressing, or promotion at least two Saturdays a month in the different areas, are some of the proposals.
This is the Commercial Revitalization Plan that is fully subsidized by the General Directorate of Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands. Yesterday, the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, together with the general director of Commerce, David Mille, and the delegate councilor of the Development Society, Alfonso Cabello, presented this initiative whose main value, according to Mille, is that “it involves the entire commerce of the municipality, and it is not only focused on the downtown area of the capital”. “The objective is to sensitize towards the purchase in the nearby commerce, to mobilize the commercial areas; contribute to the development of a more sustainable environment and publicize all the commercial areas of the municipality”, added Mille.
In addition, he indicated that “close commerce is a generator of employment and wealth. It gives life to the neighborhood, dynamizes it, provides security and also contributes to the sustainability and protection of the environment by avoiding trips to other places of purchase”.
The project, presented by the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, aims to improve the competitiveness of nearby businesses; promote the commercial offer; promote local identity and belonging to the neighborhood and the commercial area; project the image of Santa Cruz as a commercial, dynamic and safe city and create a more dynamic public space.
The general director of Commerce and Consumption and the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bernúdez, were also accompanied by the CEO of the Development Society, Alfonso Cabello, who was in charge of presenting the plan in an act in which Representatives from Zona Centro and FAUCA were present.
The mayor in his speech wanted to highlight the support “that we have always had from this general management and that is being fundamental in the joint lines of work that we are carrying out with the aim of reactivating the sector in the municipality”.
“In Santa Cruz de Tenerife there are 1,538 commercial companies, which represents 22% of all businesses in the municipality and 25.2% of all businesses in Tenerife” and pointed out that “the number of jobs directly related to commercial sector is 21,528 jobs. Only the last month, almost 13% of the total of contracts in the municipality concentrated in commerce and restoration”.
To which he added, “we are determined to continue generating tools, such as the one we are presenting to you today, to create favorable conditions so that Santa Cruz continues to be the economic engine of the Island.”
For his part, the CEO of the Development Society, Alfonso Cabello, thanked the business associations for their involvement “since they are being fundamental in the recovery of the 14 commercial areas that we have in the municipality and they are allies in this project that what it intends is to give a boost to the commercial sector through communication and strategic promotion by incorporating new approaches that will allow it to adapt to new markets and forms of consumption”.
