The road known as La Charca, in The Realejosalready reports directly to the City Council after the Council of Tenerife recently formalized the transfer to the municipality of this section of the island road TF-335. For several years, the northern municipality has demanded the improvement and transfer of this road, which had been integrated into the local urban fabric and connects places such as El Medio Street, Realejo Alto and the House of Culture.
The Vice President of the Cabildo de Tenerife and Island Councilor for Roads, Enrique Arriaga (Cs)and the royal mayor, Manuel Dominguez (PP)signed on April 12 the act of delivery and transfer by the Insular Corporation to the town hall of this section of the TF-335 island road. Specifically, it is an urban section between the intersection with Lanzarote street and the end of the TF-335 island road and the beginning of the TF-342 island road that gives access to the center of Icod el Alto.
Enrique Arriaga explained that “with this assignment the Tenerife Council facilitates management for the benefit of citizens and guarantees greater comfort and safety as it is a section of road with the characteristics of a street. The counselor recalls that, before making this transfer, the Cabildo de Tenerife undertook the comprehensive rehabilitation of the TF-335 road surface, and built a new pedestrian path on the side of the road to “improve road safety and facilitate the transit of vehicles and pedestrians of this important section that serves as access to the Agustín Espinosa Early Childhood and Primary Education Center. A work in which an insular investment of more than half a million euros was made.
The Cabildo of Tenerife invested 543,000 euros in the previous improvement of this road
The works carried out provide a solution in terms of safety thanks to the construction of a retaining wall along the entire length of the road, which has given it greater stability, and a sidewalk that offers safe access to students and to the rest of the educational community of the Agustín Espinosa public school, “who risked their lives walking down the road every day,” he explains. Arriaga. The works also included the execution of a sidewalk with a minimum width of 1.8 meters on the right bank and a small shoulder-sidewalk of approximately half a meter, in addition to the installation of a metal railing attached to the sidewalk on the right bank, the replacement of all the horizontal signage affected by the work, as well as the placement of the vertical signage necessary both for the new projected actions and to complement the existing vertical signage.
«This road infrastructure runs through urban land and does not cause interruption of the itinerary, since the section that crosses the municipality is connected to the rest of the island’s road network. This action is part of the strategy of the Cabildo Tenerife of transferring to the city councils of roads that have become urban sections», according to the island administration.
With this assignment, The City Council of Los Realejos begins to assume the obligations entailed in holding ownership of a road, among which its maintenance and conservation stands out. The consistory already has a project for the provision of outdoor public lighting on the road to be able to respond to “a historic neighborhood demand.”
The Councilor for Municipal Services, responsible for the public company Realserv, Sunday Garciareported in 2021 that there was a budget of 52,000 euros to make this improvement to the road a reality, where they intend to install “a total of 26 points of light with LED technology”. This action was blocked by the transfer, due to the impossibility for the City Council to invest in a road that until last April 12 was owned and competed by the Tenerife Island Council.
