The draft of the new ordinance prepared by the City Council includes a specific section in which it is anticipated that Santa Cruz de Tenerife will prohibit smoking on its beaches.
Thus, in this draft it is collected that, as in the rest of public spaces, in these, it is prohibited to the users of the beaches and bathing areas of the municipality to deposit any type of waste directly on the sand or rocks, having to make use of the litter bins installed for this purpose according to the fraction of waste generated or transport it to a container or alternative deposit system installed in the public space.

In addition, “in order to avoid the presence of cigarette butts in the sand and the subsequent potential contamination of the coast, smoking is prohibited on the beaches and bathing areas of the municipality, except in areas specially authorized by the City hall”.
The rule also establishes that the owners of beach bars, kiosks, restaurants and the like near the beaches or located inside them must avoid the production of scattered garbage, having the containers or elements necessary for it and being responsible for its collection and cleaning. during the exercise hours of the activity and at the end of it.
Likewise, the use of single-use plastics is prohibited in the exercise of these activities.
It remains to define the areas that could be enabled for smoking and check if there is any type of allegation in this regard that could alter the literal content of this section that is included in article 43 of the regulation.
