The province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has the lowest electricity price on Holy Saturday since the war in Ukraine began

The electricity price in the wholesale market (pool) has been set for today, Saturday, April 16, in €153.85 the megawatt hour (euros/MWh) in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife, The Palm, La Gomera Y The iron) what it means a drop of more than 22% compared to the value set for yesterday, Good Friday, and its lowest price since the beginning of the ukrainian war.

According to data from the Iberian Electricity Market Operator (OMIE), the maximum price was registered between 00:00 and 1:00 today, when it was 222.43 euros/MWh, while the minimum will reach 40, 32 euros/MWh between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Despite this new fall, the price of electricity almost triples the amount registered a year ago, when it was paid at 68.93 euros/MWh, although it is more than 25% below the figures for February 24, when the war began in Ukraine.

In addition, the price of this Saturday, the day of the week in which economic activity decreases and energy demand is lower, continues to be 72% lower than the record of 544.98 euros/MWh registered on March 8.

So far this month, the average price of electricity has reached 213.96 euros/MWh, 70 euros below the average registered during March (283.3 euros/MWh), the most expensive in history to date , and almost doubles the price of 2021, which was crowned the most burdensome year in the historical series with 111.4 euros/MWh.

wholesale market prices have a direct impact on the regulated rate or PVPC, to which almost 11 million consumers in Spain are coveredand serve as reference for the other 17 million who contract their supply on the free market.

In this way, the Russian invasion of Ukraine is causing tensions in the energy marketespecially in the case of gas, due to the risk that Russian imports to Europe will be slowed down by the sanctions imposed by the European Union.

The Government has approved a national plan to respond to the economic and social consequences of the situation in Ukraine, which includes the extension of the tax reduction on the taxes levied on the electricity bill until June 30and the expansion of the electricity social bond to reach 1.9 million beneficiary households.
