The City Council of Santa Cruz, through the concessionaire company Valoriza SA, has carried out more than 190 jobs so far this year to clean, remove and eliminate graffiti on public roads, which entails an expense of almost 20,000 euros in these months of 2022.
The Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, explains that each graffiti costs approximately 100 euros, an amount that can increase depending on its size. From the City Council they advocate trying to generate greater citizen awareness by opening administrative processes to fine offenders that culminate in sanctions.
The municipal ordinance states that the supporting architectural elements must be kept clean and constructively sound, without graffiti, graffiti, posters, stickers or similar elements, nor obsolete elements. “In this way, the ordinance classifies as an infraction any graffiti that causes damage to public space and establishes penalties that range between 750 and 1,500 euros,” reports Tarife.
The elimination of these elements is part of the work that is carried out daily by the cleaning service. From the Consistory they report that the areas of the municipality where this type of negligence is most frequent are Añaza, Barranco Grande, Barrio de la Salud, Ofra and El Toscal.
The mayor explains that for the cleaning and removal of graffiti and graffiti, machinery is used that does not damage the supporting wall, removing only the element through the use of pressurized water, cold or hot, and/or solids projected from the edge and tangential impact to the facing, depending on the type of surface to be treated.
